All You Need to Know About Lip Neutralization.
In recent years, the permanent makeup industry has experienced unprecedented growth. While the eyebrow tattoo has become iconic, it's not the only aspect of makeup permanency. The popularity of semi-permanent lip blush has skyrocketed, making it one of today's most sought-after cosmetic procedures.
Lip blushing, a cosmetic tattoo technique, aims to enhance the natural beauty of the lips using colored pigment. It improves lip shape and creates the illusion of fuller, well-defined lips without the need for fillers. However, for individuals with darker or hyper-pigmented lips, lip blush may not be suitable. In such cases, 'lip neutralization' is the key to achieving a pinker pout.
So, what exactly is lip neutralization? Unlike lip blush, which involves injecting red or pink pigment into the lips to darken them, lip neutralization aims to lighten the lips while achieving similar results.
In this blog post, we'll explore what lip neutralization is, its advantages, how it differs from lip blush, and what you can expect during the treatment.
What is Lip Neutralization?
Lip neutralization is a specialized procedure designed for individuals with cool or dark-toned lips. It's often recommended for those with darker skin tones or individuals whose lips have darkened due to factors like weather conditions, hyperpigmentation, or underlying medical issues. This treatment involves injecting neutralizing ink pigments into the lip area to balance out darker tones, enhancing the natural lip color, shape, and symmetry. Unlike lip fillers, which add volume, lip neutralization focuses on definition and fullness.
Benefits of Lip Neutralization.
Lip neutralization offers several benefits for those considering the procedure. It creates lighter, pinker lips, reducing the need for frequent lipstick, lip liner, and lip gloss applications. Additionally, it can improve pigmentation in dark or aging lips, enhance lip symmetry, and correct lip scarring. Lip neutralization is an excellent option for achieving fuller-looking lips without resorting to injectables or surgery.
What to Expect During a Lip Neutralization Procedure.
Lip neutralization is a complex procedure, typically requiring 2-4 sessions performed by specialized technicians. Here's an overview of each session:
1. Consultation: An initial consultation is essential to understand your expectations and desired outcomes.
2. First Session: During the first session, a neutralizing pigment is injected to correct cool tones in the lips. Blue shades are neutralized using an orange-based pigment, while yellow ink balances purple tones.
3. Second and Third Sessions: Unlike lip blush, lip neutralization may require 1-3 sessions to achieve the desired results. These sessions are scheduled at least six weeks apart, with the practitioner adjusting their technique to meet your specific needs.
4. Lip Blush: After neutralization, clients can opt for a lip blush treatment to add color and create fuller, pinker lips.
Preparation for Lip Neutralization.
Before undergoing lip neutralization, consider the following:
Avoid lip neutralization if you are pregnant, nursing, taking blood-thinning medication, or prone to cold sores.
Prepare for optimal results by exfoliating your lips three days before the procedure.
Refrain from consuming blood-thinning substances like alcohol, coffee, ibuprofen, Tylenol, aspirin, or fish oil for 48 hours prior to your appointment.
Lip Neutralization Aftercare.
Following the procedure, follow your technician's instructions closely. Expect mild discomfort and swelling during the initial days, which should subside within a few days. Applying an ice pack for short intervals can help alleviate swelling during the first four to eight hours.
Avoid picking, scratching, or rubbing the treated area if scabs develop. Consult your technician for appropriate balms or creams to ease discomfort. Refrain from using soap, cleansing products, or makeup on the treated area for at least seven days following the treatment.
Permanent Makeup Color Correction and Removal.
If you have permanent makeup with a desirable shape but faded color that now appears blue, green, purple, or red, we have a technique to 'cover' the old color effectively.
First, we apply corrective color to neutralize the faded permanent makeup in the same session, instantly giving you beautiful, natural-looking eyebrows. The transformation is immediate!
The principles of color theory apply to all forms of art, whether it's on walls, in paintings, in your hair, or on your face.
For those seeking Permanent Makeup removal:
You might have eyebrows that are overly solid, too dark, too large, or improperly placed in terms of color. In such cases, a significant portion of the existing color needs to be addressed first.
Through our removal technique, we either completely remove the old color or lighten it to a manageable shade. After the initial treatment, clients must wait a minimum of four weeks, allowing the color to rise to the skin's surface.
After this period, we reassess the area to determine if additional removal sessions are required before we can apply a new color. In many instances, both removal and color correction are necessary before new pigment can be applied.
While this process involves multiple visits and a six-month commitment, the results are well worth the effort.
